Rotvajler
There are two main types of Rottweilers; the German Rottweiler and the American Rottweiler. The German Rottweiler tends to be slightly larger and blockier than the American Rottweiler, although there is little else to distinguish the two breeds. Although the Rottweiler has received some bad press in recent years for its volatility, this is actually a very loyal breed of dog. Although the tail of the Rottweiler is usually docked for show purposes, this practice has been outlawed in most of Europe.
Origins
The Rottweiler was originally bred in the town of Wurttemberg in Germany and is believed to be descended from the Italian Mastiff. The Rottweiler was widely used as a working dog in the Middle Ages and was used as a guard dog, a police dog, a herder and a messenger dog. The German Rottweiler Club was established in Germany in 1907, while the International Rottweiler Club was established later in the same year and both of these clubs helped to set the standard for the Rottweiler breed.
